Urban Fly Fishing on the Kelvin

I found a blog that is the most fascinating thing to read for a long time: Urban Fly Fishing on the Kelvin.

Nice work Alistair!

Waterproof pocket or pack

At Tuesday night I noticed that I should either have purchased a wading jacket with waterproof pocket or have a waterproof pack where to put my digital camera and cellular phone. I waded too deep and both of these digital devices went dead. I noticed it when I tried to take picture of beautiful 50 cm trout...

Testing rods and lines

Now when my favourite fly rod is broken I have tried out my other rods with different lines. To my surprise some strange combinations work to some extent at least.

Maybe the biggest surprise is my old 8 weight rod. This 8'6" rod casts 7 weight DT line very well, but this is natural as you might even call it 7/8 weight rod. However I was able to cast some 20-23 meter casts with this rod using 5 weight Rio WindCutter line. It didn't shoot that well but I was able to keep most of the line in the air before final forward cast. It did require lot of double hauling thou.

Caddisfly Hatch

There was heavy caddisfly hatch last night. Mostly egg-laying females I think.

Orange bodied Klinkhämmer worked well, but this trout accepted a streamer.

Nice fishing!

Summer

I haven't been able to go to fishing since last week. This is the best caddis time of the season - so I'm not too happy about it. Soon the water will get too hot for bigger trout. Most of them will swim to the depths of lakes.

But this is not just yet - there is still time.
